I disagree with paid posting being temporary.
You can choose to use paid posting over a period of 1 year, with 5 or 6 posts being made everyday by a couple of different users.

This in itself would bring about natural conversation from 'real' users.
Hiring paid posting for 2 weeks is temporary, hiring for 6 months or a year is valuable.

i found that going to online groups, such as yahoo groups etc. can target your traffic, but i'm still learning so this might be a bad thing?

I refuse to fail. No matter what I have to do, my forum is going to be successful. Even if it takes all of my patience.

Good Idea, but what is the best forum posting service by consumer review?

    Done.

My forum is currently running the latest version of Vbulletin. Definitely worth every penny.

When do you consider a forum to be "successful"? When x number of members come back everyday or when you reach an x number of members?

What are Yahoo groups all about? I have been hearing about it, is it some sort of chat area of common interest? Details....

    Does that always work?
I usually go to my friends to help me build up a new community, just ask them - and if they don't understand the niche, then post on some webmaster forums "Looking for post exchanges", set a limit and post.

    Heres an open offer...
I frequent several forums and have just started one myself.
If you agree to post X number of posts/topics on my forum I will reciprocate by doing the same at yours. I will seek out subjects within my field and contribute quality input. And expect same.

PM me if this works for you...

Another interesting approach - that is used here at DP is to have a closed members only category/forum - here at DP they have the dp underground members only forum. This will build curiosity and have people signup to see what is happening in that members only forum.
