Do this first so that you don't waste your time asking questions that have already been answered 10,000 times. This is why you're not getting many responses because people know the answers are already here and they want to use their time answering new questions. Please take this advice.

Make a name for your self within your business'es forums/communities: NETWORK!

 

Start by doing on page optimization for keywords frequently used in searches. Include your city or area in your keywords if you are a "local" web designer. Make sure your keywords are in your page title, page description, h1 tags, and of course the page text.

Then go out and get some links back to your pages with variations of the same keywords. This will help you get some search engine traffic.

Another option, is to do a Pay Per Click campaign. If you're a local web designer you can get some targeted hits at a pretty low price. It'll cost you a lot if you're trying to sell web design services worldwide.

 

Some of my favorite marketing techniques include article marketing, forum marketing, search engine optimization, and guest blogging.

 

What I started doing is using MySpace and Facebook to promote my site.

Then I made niche blog of the same topic of the main site and linked the blog to the main site. I saw a dramactic increase of traffic within a month.

I suggest using wordpress.com to make a blog (They submit everything to search engines and include some seo) or Blogger.com of all of your designing, with some examples and such.

Shouldn't be that hard if you are really devoted and have tons of spare time.

 

Apply recommended SEO/SEM techniques to your site. You can do SEO for your site, promote your site with your targeted keywords. Get some good quality backlinks. Be an active member of some very high quality forums like DP and place your link in to signature. Do little bit email marketing, banner advertising and PPC if you want to pay for marketing.
