    Before placing any ads, I recommend you follow the adsense program policies so that you will get basic understanding how adsense works.
    Coming to the optimization, you shouldn't place more than 3 ads on a page. I recommend you place one ad unit on the Header, one at the top of the sidebar and one in between the post. This is very effective in terms of getting high earning per ad unit.
    Make sure, you do not click your ads, you will get banned.
