We've found free themes to lack a lot of features that premium themes offer. What we find works best are the theme development team that offer all of their themes for a single price. You will get a lot more value out of that than most free ones we have used.
Customizr. Its extremely popular so I'm sure you will have no trouble finding a solution to a problem you encounter while using it.
Nice collection. Popular themes are good, or not so good as so many sites are using them at the same time. It's better to do a little tweak with these themes or even code one on your own.
