Other than Dmoz are there any other really good directories that will help boost your search engine rankings?

The best way to sort directories, is to open a notepad file. Note down every directory you see in peoples signatures here in DP. Now save this as "dont-ever-submit-to-these-directories.txt". You can refer to this file to help with your submitting.

Now head over to dmoz, submit there. Bestoftheweb too. Once done, forget directories and go do some genuine link building.

Bit of a silly statement that one, if you apply those rules to directories then apply them to all sigs.

How would it apply to all sigs? 99% of the directories listed in peoples sigs here are absolute crap.

I suppose all new directories have to start from somewhere - probably crap as compared to DMOZ. But really, is there such a thing as a "good" directory? How is "good" or even "best" defined? By number of links? By PR? By the absence of spammy sites?

I've argued the point before that there is no such thing as a good general directory - thats certainly true from a users point of view. For an seo point of view, 95%+ of the directories posted in here are absolute garbage, and completely worthless to submit to. They are starting out yes, but they will never be good.

and the same could be said for the sites listed, a blanket statement like that does nothing.

To the OP , do a search on this topic, it has been covered may times with some good ideas.

So you are saying that because the owner of a directory is a DP member the directory that he have is a crap
i know that a big % of directories promoted in this forum is crap and allmost 99% of directories that are on anouncment section are crap but to say that because the owner is a DP member the directory is crap is a silly statement at least!
