    Hi all DP's,

    Can we have a fair discussion of the best directories? Lets web masters speak about this::

    Do you get fair traffic from directories?
    What are your top traffic driving directories?
    How old is your submission?

    Or direcotories are a crap thing?

    hard to get in the good directories .and in DMOZ..even harder .yes, DMOZ could be a great source of traffic,but,how to get there? almost impossible .
    i don't think directories are a crap .but,depends on what directory -if is just a link farm,or a real directory

    I do get traffic from directories, usually a niche directories. As for the rest, no I dont, but I dont see it as a bad thing. Some of those directories don't last long, few are good, get pages indexed, depending on the owner.

    Best is a very general word, as most people asking for the best of something rarely specify what they mean, it can be difficult to make suggestions.

    Each person might rate a directory differently.

    most people would agree that dmoz and yahoo are best directories, maybe top, but don't limit on just two.

    There are quite many good directories like avivadirectory, romow,

    Well directories are not really known for being traffic senders, i have even read of people having submitted to yahoo directory and they got very little or no traffic from it.

    Who told you that traffic should be expected from directories or did you assume that this was the case?

    the only directory i ever got visible traffic from is DMoz,... one of my sites listed there... and thats about it.
    rest seems for google traffic is just not a measure.. ,... links are! so , this is where directories come in!

    and which directory are best, and how to judge them,... wel i dont know, how do u judge Hotels/ Resorts? by traffic, targetted traffic, quality of traffic, and above all, quality of the hotel itself,... is it a 5 star hotel, or round the corner shady hotel!

    all businesses are same where quality is concerned, its how the owner runs it is all that matters!

    I agree with your analogy to some extent. However, most hotels usually accept customers without questioning their background as long as they are paying. A good directory would reject sites that do not adhere to their guidelines and/or meet some standard(...) Some would even reject that payment altogether. :)

    If you are looking for traffic you might want to look at promoting your site, you can target keywords that bring you the traffic you are wanting. You can purchase banners on high traffic websites that a similar niche to yours.

    Directories aren’t intended to bring you traffic, Search Engines do that job now. Submitting your site to a couple of directories won’t help very much.

    Thanks Brian

    Traffic will be received not from directories but from search engines after time. Directories do not give high traffic but give good referential mass that eventually improves the position of site in the SERP. This is especially noticeable for new sites.

    I can recommend to submit a website to niche directories and most popular general directories. The aktueller list of free directories you can take from my site.

    The most effective directory:
    - moderated by human;
    - popular among users,
    - with high PR and Alexa ranking;
    - well indexed by search engines
