Arguably you have to include the directories at
    G
    Y
    &
    DMoz

But of course there are many other directories that offer value for quality :)

That's a regurgitation of DMOZ buddy.

ie. Submit a Site is redirected to DMOZ

Either way, DMOZ is free so it wasn't even relevant in the first place to this thread question.

well, in all honesty, not necessarily 100% accurate, but for the most part yes.
remember, there are those who do 'pay' to get into dmoz. (e.g. corruption)

In theory, the directory is free. You can 'pay' your way into anything these days, but that doesn't rewrite the underlying rules.

The underlying rules *are* 'pay to play'.
Regardless of the fact, and as stated, it's still not 100% accurate.

We could agree to disagree, but everyne here knows of the corruption and how you can in fact 'pay' your way into a 'free' directory.

I still don't understand why DMOZ never got into the paid listing business, they could cash in big time with it!

I think that was due to the fact that it's a 'volunteer' model.

Lots and lots of extra paperwork that you are overlooking that would have to be done. Especially when it's a serious entity such as DMOZ/Gaygle.
