Always focus on on page optimisation first
    • Are you using your H1, H2 tags properly?
    • Are your images optimised (webp) with alt tags?
    • Do your links have titles?
    • Is your copy written for humans?
    • Are the colours distinct?
    • Is the site "responsive"?

To ensure your website is optimized for SEO, here are the basic elements to check:

    1. Title Tags & Meta Descriptions: Ensure each page has a unique and descriptive title tag (under 60 characters) and meta description (under 160 characters) that include relevant keywords.

    2. URL Structure: URLs should be clean, concise, and keyword-rich. Avoid long, complex URLs and use hyphens to separate words.

    3. Keyword Optimization: Use relevant keywords naturally in content, headings (H1, H2, etc.), image alt text, and URLs. Avoid keyword stuffing.

    4. Mobile-Friendliness: Ensure your site is responsive and provides a good user experience on mobile devices.

    5. Site Speed: Page load speed is a critical ranking factor. Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to optimize load times.

    6. Internal Linking: Use internal links to connect relevant pages and help search engines crawl your site better.

    7. Backlinks: Acquire quality backlinks from reputable sites to improve your site's authority and ranking.

    8. Content Quality: Ensure your content is original, relevant, and provides value to users. Google prioritizes high-quality, informative content.

    9. XML Sitemap: Create and submit an XML sitemap to search engines to ensure all pages are indexed.

    10. Secure Website (HTTPS): A secure, encrypted connection (SSL certificate) is important for both user trust and SEO ranking.
By regularly reviewing and updating these SEO elements, you can improve your website's search engine visibility and performance.

Basic things to check for website SEO: set up Google Search Console & Analytics, submit XML sitemaps, ensure HTTPS, fix crawl errors, optimize title/meta tags, check mobile-friendliness, use clean URLs, add alt text to images, and review internal linking.

Stop thinking about search engines. Seriously.
Think about the people visiting your website - give them exactly what they’d want to find. If it’s a blog or content site, focus on high-quality, original content, not empty AI-generated fluff.
If it’s a business site, give visitors clear, detailed information about your product or service. Tell your story. Show real case studies.
Avoid generic content - be open and honest, just like this comment - and people will find you on their own! Including through search engines.

Except for readability. No point in getting people to your site if they bounce immediately because the site is spammy.

    You're so naive...
No, you get traffic only if Google decides to give you some.
What does Google base that decision on?
Well, it depends on some mysterious Google feng shui and whether the stars align at the exact moment the algorithm chooses to send you traffic.
And no matter what you do, that traffic won’t go up beyond a certain point.
It will reach some upper limit, and after that, it might drop, but it will never go higher.
Why would Google give you more traffic?
If they did, you wouldn’t need to spend money on AdWords.

You're spot on—focusing on the basics can solve a large chunk of SEO and usability issues, especially for beginners. In my experience, one of the most effective ways to ensure both user compatibility and SEO performance is by aligning on-page structure with search intent.
For instance, I manage a site targeting a specific niche—restaurant menus and coupons. When I optimized the Long John Silver’s menu and deals page, I focused on:
    • Targeted long-tail keywords like "Long John Silver’s updated menu" and "current coupons"

    • Structuring content with clear <h1>, <h2> tags for scannability

    • Optimizing images with alt text and using WebP formats

    • Improving internal linking to related menu and offer pages

    • Enhancing mobile experience and load speed
Here’s the actual website I worked on is https://www.longjohnsilversmenu.us/
    • Implementing just these basic SEO principles helped boost website engagement and visibility in SERPs. For anyone just starting, this kind of niche-focused optimization can make a noticeable difference.

Can we assume they stiffed you on your invoice or do you not understand the impact of posting here?
On-page SEO is still valid. Plenty of people are still getting it wrong.

Start with responsive design (mobile compatibility), fast load times, and clean URL structure. Add meta tags, proper heading hierarchy (H1-H3), and alt text for images. These basics ensure both visitors and search engines can understand and index your site effectively.
