well it certainly sends you the emails quicker than manually retrieving emails.

 

The only advantage is that you don't have to actively retrieve your messages. The disadvantage is that push email on a mobile device consumes a greater amount of energy (the battery) than pull email.

 

Push mail is the basic feature of Android and iOS. Currently every smartphone offers this feature. So whenever someone send you a email your phone will notify you that you got a mail. So you don't have to check manually for new emails.
