What are Squidoo Lenses?

I have seen the term a few times on the forum now yet don't have a clue what they are. Can someone fill me in with a non-technical answer please?

Squidoo.com is a website that allows you to build web pages for free. Squidoo's term for a web page is a lens. So when you hear the term 'Squidoo lens' it just means a single web page made at Squidoo.com.

 

What is so beneficial to website owners to have a squidoo lense page?

 

A Squidoo lens gives you a high PageRank backlink to your site.

A lens about a niche topic or product related to your site can be used to drive highly targeted traffic there.

 

And you can make a lens, add many things like affiliates etc. You can also make money from your lens.

 

Making a lens is a great way to get a good backlink to your site, they also rank quite highly in google and are a great and easy way to promote yourself. It doesnt take long to make one.

 

I'm considering joinng Squidoo but the intro page on that site and the lack of a step-by-step tutorial makes the whole process sound very complex (which maybe it isn't, and perhaps it's just me.) Howver I found another Sqidoo.com page about succeeding with this program which as far as I can see is not linked to the home page. I'm not certain that I'm allowed to furnish that url in this forum, so if anyone is interested in that info, please PM me.

But the fact that there all these e-manuals and tutorials supports my contention that Squidoo is complex.

It's not exactly a blog or a website, neither an article. It's basicaly a long page you can write anything you want on.

It's mostly used in affiliate marketing, as google loves squidoo lenses and ranks them very high. I use squidoo lenses in my SEO as they provide strong backlinks and is a great way to get targeted traffic to your website.

Squidoo is the perfect way to promote your website if you are good at writing. I've used Squidoo to promote proxy websites, affiliate programs, my other websites. I almost make a lens for every website I have.
