Being fairly new to seo myself, I am interested in hearing from some of the more experienced seo people, what they believe are the biggest myths of seo.

    Anyone have a top 10?

Nice question,I have tried and listed down a few that I am aware of!
    • PageRank - To begin with, let's go for PR! 70%, if not all, of the Webmasters believe that PR of a page is everything. Hell, I even know some SEOs who claim to get PR 5 for 800$ .. lol!
    • Keyword Density is Important - I read in one of the forums about this,if you search "click here" on Google!
      http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
This page ranks on top of 3,760,000,000 results! And yet the term "Click here" doesn't appear on the page, even once i.e the keyword density is 0.00%
    • SEO is easy to learn. - Most people believe that SEO is easy and can be learned by reading a 59$ ebook! I agree that reading is the most essential part, but it requires you to have complex knowledge about html/css.
The work of an SEO is demanding and very complicated. If SEO had been easy, many people would do it and almost everyone's site must have been getting higher rankings!
    • SEO firms can guarantee high rankings, even top 10 results. - This often leaved me ranking, I had written a blog entry here, about SEO claims from companies, what you have to take into consideration is that handing over an SEO job will not minimise your risk factor, just like Mutual Funds, SEO jobs are subjected to various factors, the primary being your competitions!
    • Apart from this, Bill Slawski (aka bragadocchio), the admin on cre8asiteforums has an excellent thread here, that should help!

How about the myth that meta tags are still important and needed to be listed well with the major search engines.

Google uses your meta description as the description for your site in their serps. So yes it makes sense to put in something pertinent.

    Ok, here are some myths.
    • Pagerank is everything.
    • Only google matters.
    • Keyword density is important.
    • Keywords in your domain work.
    • Link exchanges are good.
    • More backlinks the better.
    • You need seo software.
    • You have to submit your site to search engines.
    Etc.

    That's just a few.

They still work in MSN - especially if you have the exact keyword domain.

Pagerank has to be the biggest, as far as I can see it counts for nothing when ranking sites. It's nothing more than a 'product' of a sucessful link building campaign.

Given that many of us are aware of that "biggest myth" I still see a lot of guys/gals devote a lot of time trying to improve their PageRank.

Is there anything they know that I am not aware of?

buy rimonabant isn't exactly a competitive search phrase, you're could probably get there through on-page optimisation alone.

    LOL

More backlinks the better - of course -> every link has some value !
We can now discuss about quality of BL's but every link has some value :D
Keyword density is important -> it is not that much important but it is good to have occuring of keyword several times in text than only one appearing.
