What is the importance of readability in a domain name and what are the best practices in naming an internet domain name?? For example, will it be wrong to have a domain name such as my cell phone number itself?

    Hi kumarkunal,

While there is no rule that says you couldn't use your cell phone number as a domain, people are not going to remember it if they try to search for you -- so that can really hurt you, since the goal is obviously for people to find your site.

Having the name of your site and the domain match is the most ideal scenario. You can use the free Google Keyword Tool and see what people are searching, based on your theme. Including a keyword (or even a longtail keyword) in your domain name itself can help you to get found when people are searching for the topic of your site.

Your domain should be easy to remember, if possible. While the shorter name is often considered better, it doesn't necessarily have to be short if its memorable. Some people use their own name as a domain and build a brand based on their name. There is nothing wrong with that if you plan to really put yourself out there and brand yourself. But a lot of people find it a little easier to choose a name that represents the theme of their website well - and is something that people are already searching for.
