I am looking to use myspace and facebook to help me promote my coupon site. What are some proven ways to go about doing this?
My only advise is to be careful. You don't want to be accused of spamming. Else your Facebook/MySpace account will be terminated.
I said fuck it, and copied and pasted the following from my e-book. It's a bit of a read, but it is everything you need to know. Begin.... This is not a favorite of mine, because many times you have to contact X amount of members just to make it worth your while. If you don’t do it right, it’s basically like sending a mass of e-mail to people. Spam. It can take hours and hours, literally, before you get one of them to buy something. Are you willing to put in, say, 40 hours for one sale? You think you can do better than that? Go ahead and try it. Here is the reality... First, conversion rate for most products is, maybe, 1%. On top of that, you FIRST have to get them to go to your site to even get that conversion rate! With that said, you have to send messages to thousands upon thousands of members. And how long will that take? Get the picture? Yes, there is an option that enables you to send a message to all of them at the same time, but you still have to get their address to send it in the first place, right? Would you be making twenty-five cents an hour? One dollar? Minimum wage? Who knows until you really try it, so keep a log of how many hours you put in to it, and how many sales you make in, say, a month’s time. It's highly overrated as a way to sell a product. But it could be good for a blog, message board, or a content site where you make money from ad placements. Though, I am thinking about creating a page singles can go to post ideas and experiences out there in the single's world. I could, POSSIBLY, use that as a means to get my URL out there. And so can you with your product. But keep track of the hours you put in! If you get nothing or very little in return…. I think the only difference is if you post there anyway. Get a friend network going, while making a few bucks here and there at the same time. Ringtones, e-cards and IM smileys are good sellers. Look for such fun things that are also cheap. If you use FaceBook anyway, you can make some money at the same time. To avoid being labeled a spammer, and increasing your odds in making a sale, first send them a half a dozen or so messages, like you would with your friends and or family when e-mailing them all at once. Talk about this, talk about that. Get in their good graces. Get them to trust you. Remember, many of them have been hit a lot by spammers pretending to be their friend, only to try and sell them something in the second or third message sent to them. After, say, the sixth message, show them the product you are selling. Don’t tell them you are selling it! Just show it to them, like one friend to another. Talk about this, talk about that, as before, and within the message tell them about it. “Have you guys seen this?...†Or something like that. Do this only once a week to avoid being labeled a spammer. If you don’t do it right, you’re done. Many of them will lock you out! You then will have to start alllllll over again. All those initial hours gone! See why this can take hours and hours of time spent before seeing a sale?
I say a good way is to start a group get people to join then you can send them promos or e-mails and have regular contact with them. But it doesn't work overnight
Instead of spamming, try advertising on the site. There are a couple Facebook advertising vouchers and stuff scattered all around the internet. I've made some pretty sweet ROI with it.
