what are some good managed hosting that won't break my bank?

I'vehad it with my shitty dreamhost account...they go down for hours every couple of weeks, and during important times as well...

    They are cheap though.

I'm willing to pay out but not too much hopefully. Any recommendations? Must be stable, good service, and can install some basic apps and stuff, cos I'm crap at server side stuff.

Also, I have my wordpress blog hosted with them, does anyone know how I can migrate everything to a new server without losing my permalinks and stuff?

Hmmm I haven't had any of the problems you have had at dreamhost. My sites are on the "cerritos" server - maybe I'm just lucky. I do keep a second hosting account active, at a place called HostHead. Never had a need to call them after initial setup, and while they're more expensive than DreamHost, they're still very reasonable in my opinion.

I would recommend www.buyavps.com They have excellent prices (starting at $20) for managed VPS hosting. Their support is top notch 24/7. They have always answered my questions promptly and effectively.

Billy Paradise, dream host has been down like once every week now, check their status blog...and they have a lot more outages that they don't mention...I use a tracking service and I get error notification emails all the time

Yep, just after I posted that, I found that access to any of my sites that had a database backend (joomla etc) were down for almost long enough for me to log into the control panel and launch a trouble ticket. Spoke too soon I guess.

    Grrr.....

Please be careful with buyavps. They have had a few issues recently. Do some more research around google before jumping in with them.
