I'd like to know of any good free traffic analytic tools as well as any other good free tools for a newbie such as myself. I want to start up a site but don't want to spend more money then absolutely necessary.

I like statcounter. Their free version is perfect for small and/or young sites. http://www.statcounter.com

I use Google Analytics myself though. It's free. http://www.google.com/analytics/
