hi, I'm a freelance writer and I've been writing for many blogs/sites for the last few years. Now I'm planning to start own blog/site, but I don't have any(literally) knowledge about these things, especially on the technical side. And whenever I read about blogging etc, I could see everyone mention about 'back links' and its importance. Can anyone tell me what it is, and what is its importance (In a simple way, so that a beginner can understand). Thanks in advance, Annie
A backlink is when a site has a link to your site on a page. It helps, because it could bring you visitors. Some people will click it, but in the same time, the backlink will help you get a better position in google ( be on top )
A backlink is when someone or something links to your site. Think of it like passing out business cards, and having other people passing out business cards on your behalf. Google looks at how many people link to you as one of the ways to rank the importance and placement of your site in the SERP's. How many people are talking about you. There are other factors as well..it's not only about links. The best backlinks come naturally, when people link to you because they like or want to share your content with others. The worst backlinks are self linking...spamming places just to drop a link...they don't have longevity (they can be deleted at any time) , and they do little for traffic generation. Social bookmarking is the exception to that, but those links don't carry as much weight as natural linking from related sites. If you have a complete picture, well designed blog. Frequent, well written, informative or entertaining content. A decent grasp on Networking promotions and marketing ( at least the basics), and dedication...you will find that you don't need to hustle links all over the web 24/7, the good ones, will come naturally.
Well, since you spammed, I get to have some fun... Paying for backlinks is a risky game that most times will not get you links that are short lived. The 2 most common methods for services like this for generating backlinks for their clients are: 1. Comment spamming 2. Creating splogs Both of which can be deleted at any time since webmasters and blog networks hate spam and splogs...And then you run the risk of where ever they spam to drop your links, the site owners getting pissed and reporting your site to your host, or making trouble for you with your affiliate company, because your link is the one that is in the spam. You can obviously see by the way they spammed this thread, how they operate and what kind of possible trouble they could cause for your domain. When ever anyone says that they can get you backlinks for a fee..ask theme "where and how?". Most will say some garbage like "we have a network of sites...blah, blah, blah"...what they really mean is that they have some software that can get past captcha and can auto spam your link across blog networks and comment boxes. Seriously, how much work do you think they are going to do for $15? If you want to pay someone to help you with site placement...investigate a real SEO person or company with a good reputation..preferable one in the same country as you.
Yeah, guys I am a new member but I have doing Google Adwords and SEO. Don't do anything that could be seen as "annoying" online. Just because your site is everywhere on Digg, google yada yada, does not mean you will get better placement! Google is particularly good at catching spammers!!! They have decent algorithms that will catch spam. Using paid link services is a bad idea unless the link is a honest review. In another words, if you pay $5 for a link from a blog that has a poor reputation (pr<2) that link is nearly useless. Google will eventually detect paid links and will penalize you or discount the link. So treat the online world the same way you would as a salesman selling filters across the U.S. Find ways to get users attention without annoying them. It is very easy to report spammers. One person could report you and your practices. Then you are going to beg to Google for relief.
That's good advice. I have been building blog networks, and splogs are part of the territory. Most splogs are by "link building services" or noobs that don't know any better, or don't care. Most times the software catches them, the rest I just delete. Occassionally one will really piss me off , because even after I delete their first couple of splogs, they come right back the next day and make another one. People like that are getting screwed...I will black list that domain, affiliate account and email address in every way that I can. Same with comment spammers, and forum spammers ( on the forums that i am a moderator on). If you use a link building service that does this on your behalf, you could really screw up your domain or affiliate relationship.
Back linking can increase the importance of your site. It will increase your PR, however, this should be done carefully and if possible yourself. If you will hire someone to do it for you, it won't work most of the time. People who are hired for back linking does not really care if your account will be banned by the administrators of certain forum sites. What they are after is the payment, and your on your own.
Back links are the links that link back to your website. If a lot of websites link back to your site, then you will get a lot of back links. Back links is very important to SEO, because if your website has a good quantity and quality back links, then you site will get a high page rank, and will get a good ranking in search engine, such Google, Yahoo.
Backlinks from other sites are seen as "votes" by Google. the more people vote for you, the higher you can rank in the search engine results. If you use the relevant anchor text for your backlink, Google considers your site relevant to that topic or keyword. So apart from creating backlinks, use of relevant anchor text also determines the link power. Also, all backlinks are not created equal. If you get a quality backlink from a high PR site, it adds great value to your website. The higher the PR of the backlinking site, greater is the benefit to your website. Besides if you get a link from a .edu or a .gov website, it is ranked very highly by Google.... Contrarily, if you are getting your links from link farms or spammy sites, more often than not, your links are of no value in Google's eyes. Another factor is about reciprocal linking. One way links are more powerful than reciprocal linking. Besides if Google sees your site linking to spammy websites, it may consider your website to be spammy as well. So, all in all, we need quality one way backlinks with relevant anchor text from reputed sites to make our site rank well.
It is simple written and excellent explained so no matter what is our knowledge about SEO and backlinking it is good to read something like this and get new information on this topic. I always thought that there is no way to rank high on Google without proper backlinking but now I understand under what circumstances is that possible.
