Hi guys ,I am new into this Adwords campaign thing .I went through their visual tutorials. But I still couldn't understand what is meant by a negative keyword and how is it important ?can anybody help me in understanding this? Thanks in advance....
A negative keyword is one that you DON'T want to trigger your ad. So, if you're selling widgets, you might put 'free' as a negative keyword, as you don't want your ad showing to people looking for 'free widgets'
The negative keywords are very important as they prevent your ads from showing in searches you are not interested in. Like magda said free is one of the most common. In adwrods you'd just type in the keywords box: -free. You should do a keyword research and find what single words that have your main keyword included you would like to exclude.
"find single words that have your main keyword included you would like to exclude" I didn't get this thing ?
I guess I tried to say: find single words in the researched keyphrases that you would like to exclude. For example, let's assume you sell new blue widgets and your keyword research brought: buy used blue widgets buy blue widgets blue widgets for rent blue widgets blue widgets movie then you'll have some negative keywords to add: -used -for rent -movie Hope it's clearer now
Another reason to use negative keywords is if you get a lot of ad impressions for search queries where it doesn't really apply, it can your click through rate down, which can then affect your Quality Score.
Yeah I think I got it...But I have one more question guys what is keyword bidding. When I was watching the google tutorials it was being mentioned as a bad practice?
Bad practice? You must be confusing this with something else, you "bid" on keywords, the highest bidder gets the #1 spot on the search engine. You can either pay your way up the list or have better preforming ads. Good Luck
