What are my options for moving up from shared hosting?

I'm getting ready to relaunch my site soon, and I will need something that would be able to handle the occasional front page digg, or similar traffic spikes.

However, just starting out, I'm really only expecting an average of 500-1000 uniques a day for the first month (again with an occasional large spike in traffic).

I haven't really done a lot of research about the differences of dedicated, virtual dedicated, VPS, slicehost, etc. What would be my best option for my first few months, as well as something that can be easily upgraded in the future?

Also, how much bandwidth should I be looking for?

I'd really like to keep it under $100 a month while I'm just starting out, but from what I've been reading, that budget won't survive a big traffic spike such as a front page digg. So, I guess I'm forced to spend near $200 a month for what I need? Any thoughts?

You can have a semi dedicated hosting which is cheap I mean a shared dedicated

    Lunarpages is good

Also for your site Get it optimized for $100 so that it can handle maximum traffic for less resources on server

    Regards

Would a semi dedicated server be able to handle a front page digg without becoming overwhelmed and/or suspended?

What sort of site you are thinking to start , A Blog or a video sharing site or a Proxy site ..

Depending upon the type of site , bandwidth should be decided and server as well.

For around $100 you can get a shared dedicated server which can easily handle that kind of traffic.

A good VPS would probably work well
