What are my chances of suceeding selling christmas products?

I have a plan to build an aStore completely targeted to christmas related products, especially christmas trees. I haven't tried this niche before and I would be interested if anyone that has done it has had some good results. As Christmas is knocking at the door I will not have time to promote my astore any way except doing PPC. Would this be profitable?

I build a keyword list targeting mainly christmas trees but also many other christmas related products. What would be more wisely to use short keywords or long tail keywords. Most of the products in my astore will be priced 100+ , mainly because i do not want to waste time earning cents on sales.

If anyone has tried this niche before I would be glad if you can share thoughts and ideas.

    Cheers

That's a huge mistake, the more expensive, the more people compare prices or rethink decisions, cheaper items may mean less earnings per item, but much more overall since you'll sell alot more...PPC is an exception.

Keep in mind the % you get per item rises with sales as well, so you'll get more % on expensive stuff is you sell e.g. alot of books.

hmm, well if you are looking for making some money around the Christmas holiday, this would be a good idea. You would not be very successful after or before the holiday, but you will need to do some really good marketing! There is a lot of competition. I agree with the other poster, most people are looking for cheap Christmas items and/or gifts because of the recession. Remember economics? The higher the demand, the higher the price....well high prices are not in demand right now because people are laid off from their jobs. So you might want to stick with low prices for right now! Good niche though. it could work if you have a professional looking site.

I want to use an AStore, nothing fancy probably I will get a design to it, but selling cheap products will not have sense. On a 20$ product for example the 4% commission will be 0.80$, when PPC bids are somewhere around 0.70$ ..

Good idea but hundreds, if not thousands (literally) think so too. Save your time and money and focus on something else. The Christmas market is insanely supersaturated because everyone has the same idea you have. Don't forget you'll have to compete with the already well established big boys and their big budgets - Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-Mart, etc.

Yeah dude you started very late, there will be guys setting up there Xmas 2009 sites right about now....

on a more positive note, just find an item that is selling hot by doing some keyword research and then build

    a site around that...

You certainly have a chance i did a page on christmas toys about 3 weeks ago using Amazon products and yesterday had 9 sales worth over £300 and google has already given me page one position for a load of terms. Only negative is i am getting a load of hits from the US and won't get paid on them.

I agree. You started to late. You need to have a plan in place 45 - 90 days out and hire out some of the work to really kill it for christmas related items.

As others said, to late mate.
And more over, we have a recession, so sales are going to be smaller, probably 50% than year before.

I will probably give it a try next year, it is late you are all right about that. I started two weeks ago but no luck yet so I will just leave it for next year. If anyone is having success this year I would appreciate it if you can share some tips.

Don't just create a site on one holiday (Christmas). Why not a site for all occasions: valentines, xmas, halloween, etc.
