What are my chances in the news niche?

So Ive started my news website like 3 weeks ago and have had minimal traffic, but thats what I expected. I've been reading about a bunch of stuff like niches and everything. I am just wondering what my outlook is for the keyword "news" or "fast news" or something along the line of that, you get the picture.

Me, personally I think my website looks clean cut and I've updated it every day for the past 2 and a half weeks, so I'm hoping that will boost me up in the rankings.

So, do I have a chance to make it big, or should I pick another niche.

The only problem with the new website really is that news needs to be up to date by the second and not the day. For example if you watch sky news its like breaking news updated by the min, reporters all over the world stationary ect waiting to get the news. to be honest i think you are barking up the wrong tree with this kind of website why wont people just watch there local news, or national news?? Thats updated by the second rather than once a day. But that is imo. Hope my thoughts have made you seen the path of sucess on this one.

Your chances of success are pretty low. There are hundreds of news websites run by teams of skilled workers, with reporters around the globe. It is unlikely that your blogspot hosted domain is going to generate very much traffic to be honest.

Please take what I'm about to tell you with a grain of salt. You made a pretty good looking website but stop for a moment and look at your competition. ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, FOX.........etc. These are multi-billion dollar companies with endless resources. You simply CAN NOT compete with that. Learn a lesson and pick a better niche that you can monetize. Also, don't beat yourself up over this. Just move on too something more profitable. I really wish you the best of luck. You already have some skills and you're obviously willing to take action. I'm sure you'll have some success in the future.

    Good Luck,

It a difficult one to break into, it could be done though. Your competition is huge. The advice I would give you is to update consistently (news is breaking 24/7) and write some articles yourself or have a page with very well written editorials.

I think most of the posters above are being far too optimistic. Knewber & raycer are right -
in terms of 'news' you are competing with the sites of ever TV News broadcaster, every newspaper and every news magazine that is in the same language as yours.
And on what looks like a standard blogspot template.

As far as a niche goes, if you pick out a small part of the news agenda that you know about and you are well-informed enough about to make original comments, then it's worth doing, otherwise you're just wasting your time.
