I noticed that my 'smiley' sites dropped rankings last few months within MSN Search. Many of them even totally vanished which had very dominating rankings in the past. Most of my sites were ranked top-5 or 1st page! At the moment I have only few sites ranked well. All of my sites have basicly same content, layout, etc. but each one targeting specific keyword. Each site was therefore also ranked high for that particular keyword! Regarding my knowledge the following algorithms were always important for MSN: - MSN likes keywords in domain; - Number of backlinks plays a role for a certain amount; - MSN is grazy about keywords in 'title' of site, but also likes keywords in 'headers'! - Also number of times same keyword has been used within content plays a role. At the moment I am working on all my sites again in order to get my high rankings back, therefore wondering what regarding you opinion MSN Search most important algorithms are at this time!! Preferrable, ONLY reply to my thread when you are more or the less an expert on MSN Search SEO. Your experience with Google and/or Yahoo SEO will not help me directly (although MSN copies concepts of Google/Yahoo). I need to figure out how MSN Search ranks sites right now & where MSN crawlers look at in particular! Many thanks in advance!
new site drop in MSN and then come back to rank higher . MSN like content , whether it is related , duplicate or not does not matter ! MSN likes spam sites.
Not only does MSN like keywords in the domain name but I've noticed a lot of spam redirects on the first page around my site that have hyphens between the keywords in the domain name. I have good experience with MSN and content as well but good links can do the trick without much content and only 1 page on one of my newer sites.
if you enter Canadian Pharmacy in MSN, on the first page most of the links are redirects to the same site but that site has changed on different days. i submitted a spam report and i wish MSN would clean up its results. Since I've seen that I've lost a lot of respect for MSN.
Hi Brian, I would like to add something: What do you consider good (back) links? Quality back links (links from related sites)? Doing link exchange with also highly ranked MSN smiley sites using same 'key word' will help boost my rankings again? MSN loves back links from sites which are ranked high (as well) for same 'key word'? Thanks!
Anyone else other suggestions how I can get my sites back to 1st page MSN again & what I need to do/add/change to my sites? Thanks a lot!
Michel, I hold the 1 position for a site of mine on msn search. Do you update your homepage often? I added a news feed to the bottom of my homepage, and it seemed to increase my ranking a few positions. Then it just sat and position 5 and seemed to like sitting there. hrmm, then I decided to not just keep the news feed there, but actually ftp a copy of the homepage to the site. msn seemed to love it. In my case I observed that msn somehow (who knows?) checks the modified timestamp on the page, to test its freshness. I also change about 80% - 90% of the homepage text every hour (yes, 24 times a day). Since I've set this up, I've stayed at position 1, and haven't moved since. Hope that helps.
Theme-related sites: definitely, especially if they are ranked high for the same keyword I would imagine; not on FFA pgs/link farm pages; preferrably in the text of the page but that's pretty hard to get aside from articles; don't get a bunch of links from the same c-class ip range as search engines may devalue these. Those are some general quality control guidelines for links. I'm not sure if MSN cares about link farm pages much since they seem to like spam for some reason. For rankings, write some original content with the keyword that you're targeting and add often like one 500 word article a day is supposed to be really good. I mostly focus on Google because if I start posting in blogs and forums and link farm pages I might get good rankings in MSN but Google and Yahoo wouldn't like it.
You might already be doing this but in case... Have exact keywords in title seperated by commas or periods. Add links to all internal pages at the bottom of all pages within the site ,( if too many pages, then link to sitemaps or index of folders) , using the keywords in anchor. I am sure MSN gives more weight if you have your keywords all over your page, ( Well not just KW but proper paragraphs with KW's). This is not the case with google. Try those and keep posting here. Best of luck jeet
Buy sitewide textlink with keyworks that you are targeting from site with lots of pages and lots of backlink. I think it helps a lots.
