what are legal sources of content?

please list all the legal sources that you can used to copy and paste content to a website.

    e.g.
can you freely copy and paste content from wikipedia into a commercial website?
    it says the following here:
All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License

    thanks

You already have your answer about Wikipedia, just follow the link in your post. Hint: check item 2. Verbatim Copying.

Otherwise, you can copy and paste from documents that explicitly state that they are in the public domain. Many documents produced by the U.S. Government are in the public domain. If you look around government web sites you can find text and images on many topics including science (e.g. NASA), health, business, consumer information, etc.

Also, under U.S. law, any text published before 1923 is also in the public domain (Project Gutenberg has more details).

Oh and there are lots of article sites that allow you to republish the articles, as long as you keep the links and resource box intact. Just read the terms of use very carefully before you use anything. One site (out of many) is content mart: http://www.contentmart.com/

Another source is press releases, such as from PR Web (http://www.prweb.com/). According to their TOS:
There's also some fun content from the free dictionary.

Press releases and photos are content that you can use. You might also like to take a look at that site's policy, maybe they have some conditions tough.

    This is the WIkipedia license:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GNU_Free_Documentation_License

    Here is #2, Verbatim Copying
The answer is that yes, you can copy from Wikipedia as long as you follow all of their conditions, as described above.
