What are everyone's thoughts on General Review Sites?

I registered a "thisreviewsite" type domain and have been making subdomains for various CB niches with little success. Some are comparison, some just focus on one product.

Anyone else done this at all and found success with it? I feel like the domain name shouldn't matter that much, i dunno tho.

It wont work how you think. You can't drive traffic to the main page or get people checking out products in different niches. I tried this like 2 years ago. In the end I just made a 100% independent review landing page for each product. They were on the same domain but not connected in the end. Then you have to SEO and drive traffic to each individual page. There's just so much competition for products that people targeting the specific product get the sales before someone going to your review site and then searching for a product.

If it's for Article marketing, and you just need one place to keep all your products reviews, then it's fine.

However, if you are after organic traffic and want to do proper SEO, then this is not the way to go.

But then again if you really work hard, it might work. I have a review site myself and i've worked really hard to get the ranking i have right now. My review site is not that general though, i only focus on few specific niches.

I think you would be better having individual sites and if one site in particular really took off it could become quite valuable. With 1 site you could say that you have all your eggs in one basket. Having a number of sites can give you a good portfolio of virtual real estate.

also, if you're after organic traffic, then the words you have in your domain / subdomain can have a big impact on how far up the SERPS you get ...

so if you're having to start over with promotion for each subdomain, you might actually just be better off buying better keyworded domains for each product
