What are 'Directory Type Sites' and Why Does Yahoo Like Them?

    Hi All,

I read somewhere on these forums that Yahoo! likes 'directory-type sites' but can't seem to find the post just now. Anyway, could someone please explain what is meant by a 'directory type site'?

Is it to do with how the internal linking structure of a site is organized?

Also, why does Yahoo! like them?

    Cheers,
    Adam

directory sites are ones that list sites in categories. Usually with descriptions. The reason the search engines like them is that they are often human edited. That is to say, a real person checks out the site before it is listed, thereby theoretically assuring that the site is quality and appropriate to the category.

    Hope that helps.

That's pretty funny. I was going to write the exact same sentence originally. :)

Thanks guys, unfortunately I think I wasn't clear. I know what 'directories' are but I read 'directory-type' sites are good in Yahoo!'s eyes so I am wondering what I can do to my informational sites that would make them 'directory type' so I can improve rankings.

BTW, I originally posted this in the Yahoo! forums and maybe because it was moved here, my question was even less specific.

    Thanks
