What are "bid directories"?

    i have seen a lot of posts on bid directories.. but wanted to know how they work?
    Do we have to pay to get listed on them?

    Bid directories rank your site based on the amount you bid. The more you bid the higher up on the listings your shown. They do cost but there are a lot for $1 to start.

    if i start at $1...do i have to pay every time i want my link to move up the list..?

    Bid for Position directories are paid for inclusion web directories where sites are ordered according to their bid amount. They are special in that the more a person pays, the higher up the list of sites in the directory they go. With the higher listing becomes the entry more visible and increases the chances that visitors who browse the directory will click on the entry.

    Yes, i do own a directory... but the main reason for this question is my doubt about bid directories.. i am not advertising my directory in this thread..
