What are the best ways for bringing enough traffic/visitors to our directory? I know that search engines do bring me some visitors, i find that not enough for me. I tried everything like link building, forum posts and search engine submission, yet i feel not convinced with the amount of natural traffic i get for my directory. Do you have any suggestions, please post..
I don't know why but I don't think web directory are "in" anymore. DMOZ currently own almost every "good" site, so if you really want to make a web directory, you should rather attach it to a bigger site with a specific niche.
Try posting in the Solicitations & Announcement section of the Directory forums here. That usually gets a lot of signups pretty quickly. Also, if you're running a free directory, try to get listed in the more popular directory lists like Vile Silencer's and some of the other members' sites here (can't remember off the top of my head right now - no slight intended to anyone.)
I don't get what you mean by "natural" visitors. You get SE traffic, which seems to be the natural thing when you consider statistics show that many people use search to go to sites for which they already know the URL. Get it added to Directory Expert (www.backlinkboys.com) and Directory Critic (www.directorycritic) as well as the SEO Friendly List (info.vilesilencer.com).
