    The Nofollow Attribute

This new attribute is called "nofollow". It uses the "rel='nofollow'" format inserted in to the anchor tag. When added, it will serve as a flag to the SEs that the link has not been explicitly approved by the site owner and not to follow it.

As for SEO though, it tells Google (SEs) not to pass the PR to the link. In short, "don't pass the PR". This is why Wiki has all links with the nofollow in it. They do not want to loss their PR.

As for the value of a NoFollow link - ZERO No page rank transfer and no back link.

For example, this is how the HTML markup for an ordinary link might look:

    <a href="http://www.site.com/page.html">Visit My Page</a>

This is how the link would look after the nofollow attribute has been added, with the attribute portion shown in bold

    <a href="http://www.site.com/page.html" rel="nofollow">Visit My Page</a>

SEO hint. Use nofollow on all outbound links to protect your own page rank.

Nofollow links on high traffic sites might be useful for traffic purposes, but they aren't counted for SEO. That said, traffic is traffic :)

Really links on your site without "no follow" are bad for your PR? Seems exaggerated to me.

No offense, but I don't believe this is correct. A page only has so much PR to spread around, relative to its own PR, but I don't believe it actually 'loses' any PR. I believe the reason that Wikipedia would set every link to nofollow would be to discourage spammers, since Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

When was the last time you were able to edit wiki and put a link in it?
