I came across a beta site that is using what looks to be a Java based e-commerce solution. I searched around a little bit and didn't find what app it was. Here's a bit of the url: /webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HomeView Besides knowing what app it is, I'd also like to know how switching to this app would affect their search ranks assuming they do a decent job on 301 redirects.
That appears to be this http://www.inferdata.com/training/websphere/wcsintro.html I did not check costs or anything but you can produce something highly professional with this that will tackle all those features and alot more. It is also open source. http://www.magentocommerce.com/ hope that helps, Nigel
Your first link references WebSphere Commerce Server WCS which makes sense as I know they use IBM WebSphere as a backend. Magento looks like a nicer solution, since it's open source and PHP. I guess I still have a question about search engine rankings when they transition to WCS. My feeling is that they will have a sustained dip in rankings.
I depends on how long your site is up. If under 6 months its somewhat academic really. Otherwise, you need to 301 old pages to the new ones or lose a bunch of rankings. Nigel
Their site has been up about 9 years on a hosted e-commerce solution provider that does a good job on SEO. Our site has been up a little bit longer than theirs and both rank very well.
