Im signed up with the UK one, since just a few weeks ago, checking one of my sites i realise it will be useful and make sense to sign up with the .com (US) one for the traffic i get on a particular site. What other countries can you/are you signed up with for amazon associates? Any restrictions for any countries?
It is definately worth adding all the different countries. You can even write a simple geo script to redirect users automatically, or if it can't be determined show a list of links with flags. Here is a bit of info from the Amazon affiliates blog: http://affiliate-blog.amazon.co.uk/2007/03/earn_money_worl.html
Thanks freshdevelopment, i like the idea of catering to other countries, plus it makes sense of course if my traffic is from certain countries to cater for those. Do you know of any geo scripts that redirect automatically that can be used for free, or is that something that would need to be created individually for a site and its setup? Thanks BonusOnline
If I can read and learn more about German language, Japanese, France & Chinese, I will not hesitate to run it all ..lol
i signed up with amazon.com. i'd like to sign up with amazon japan too since i figured there must be a lot of cute stuffs there. too bad i don't understand the language
I don't have any geo scripts to hand but basically you will need a list of ip ranges mapped to countries, which can be obtained quite easily, and a simple script to use that data. Do a couple of searches and I am sure you will find something, I did last time I needed to - apologies but I didn't keep any record!
I have just set this up again on another site and I used: http://www.maxmind.com/app/ip-location They have a paid and free option - basically the free option is not very accurate with AOL users. I used the free option and it is fine for me. Just remember to give your users the option still, whatever way you do it, just in case.
Excellent freshdevelopment, i will have to give this a try, very much appreciate you posting about it here.
