I'm trying to rank this page for bullet proof vests but can't even see it in the first 1000 results, any ideas? I've run it through a few checking tools and it seems to be OK, reasonable keyword density of 5%, H1 tag, H2, H3 etc, link from within the navigation and content, blah blah, but can't see why it doesn't feature at all. Anywhere would be a starting point!!... even 500th This page for stab proof vests comes in about 155th so at least Google has acknowledged it's existence, it's even page 1 for some terms,.... the other page is nowhere! appreciate any thoughts... thanks.
The bullet proof vests page has very little inbound links besides those from your main site. Try to get a few more backlinks outside of your domain. Check your robots.txt file to makie sure that bots can access anything they need to index your site properly especially the page you are trying to rank for. I don't see anthing else that is glaring.
I'm not sure those numerous links with 'bulletproof vests' in the anchor that lead to the same page they're on are helping. If I were Google that would certainly look suspicious to me. They are not bringing any value to your visitors either so I'd consider removing some of them (maybe leave just one). Since you're not ranking anywhere for the term, there's no risk invloved so try testing this out. Good luck P.s Btw how are you ranking in Google.co.uk?
Thanks. Nothing unusual in the robot file, other pages rank well and the page is in Google's cache. Incoming links will be ongoing I expect. Nowhere in google.co.uk or google.com for the term. Page 1 in Bing and Yahoo (little consolation though) Yep, those 'links to self' were added as a 'no risk' test already as the page was (and still is) nowhere. They'll probably get chopped as you say. It's got to the stage that I'm making a seperate html bullet proof vests page for him outside of the CMS just to see if Google will rank that instead I'm flumoxed [sp?] as to why it's not even in the top 1000
Like it was said get some links. Write an article about bullet proof vests submit it to ezines and maybe a couple of other large directories: take a chance at goarticles.com they have no review process, so your links goes live the moment you hit submit. Try targeting a more general term like: "best bullet proof vests" or "kevlar bullet proof vests" or "how to choose a bullet proof vests" chekc with google adwords keyword tool for the # of searches and competition. Again get some links by article submission or whatever method you like and track if this will improve your rankings for the longer tail. You can use the free edition of this Rank checker to track your perfomance. Check your rankings for the keyword, submit the article, then check back in a couple of days. If you get to rank better, then you're ok and can just focus on building links. If not well, try comparing your content against the top 10 ranked pages you can do it with this seo tool it's not some magic cure but maybe it will give you a clue as to where you might have gone wrong.
