Hi folks, my site fotoviva photography is not doing very well at all. I am attempting to sell my photographs as posters or canvas prints but I'm only getting around 20 visits a day It was launched 3 months ago so maybe because it's so young it needs time to gain recognition? Perhaps I need more pictures? I currently have 40-50 images uploaded. I guess with more images not only will people have a bigger choice but it will add more content and keywords to the site. I was looking at a main competitor and on alexa it reckons they get around 300, 000 hits a day I have optimised as much as I can to my knowledge, and it is listed in around 30 directories, some of which are photo related. I have spent around £100 buying links and cannot afford to spalsh out any more until it generates more sales. So what am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Jas.
Do u have SERPs for the keywords u have optimized for? Try targetting people related to this field, u can find few on blogs n all. U aint doing anything wrong, its just that one person can only do so much ( i presume u do everything for that site), so u need to wait for a while, if u already have a competitor whos getting so much hits, definitely they must be better equipped than u and u dont have a niche site in that segment. Have patience my frd, its a wonderful site you have, definitely an eye candy.
Have u try make directory submissions related to photograph? If you make until 1000 DIR, it will take your site with high Goggle PR. Secondly, make virally report and ebook about photograph. Just simple and for free But don't forget placed your links to your site. Distribute to all member at any forum and make opt-in on your site. It will add your visitors. Hope its help you. How with others Senior members opinion? Maybe all of you more expert on this matter. Adios, Zek.
i think you should consult an seo expert here on dp. hire someone to do 1000+ directory submissions. find a keyword related to photography and target that keyword. use it as the anchor text when doing link exchange and directory submissions. hope that helps. cheers
Thanks folks, so basically adding to as many directories as possible will help with ranking position? Currently I'm focusing on canvas print, poster art print and photographic as keywords but maybe they are not right? Sorry, how do I know if I do? Yes I do it all myself, and a full time job so I'm struggling! Thanks pal
Below is your KDI, bring them to six, and submit article which these word hyperlinked to your website. art print 4.00% canvas prints 3.56% all sizes 1.78% buy canvas 1.33% I can understand been thru that 6 months ago. Regarding SERPs, I m using this http://www.shoemoney.com/serps.php Aint very accurate, but thats all i have, mayb somebody can suggest a better 1.
hi protocol, sorry but can you explain what KDI means? Is it keyword density something? And why the magic 6? Thanks!
Hi fotoviva, Keyword Density Index(KDI) is the % of the words density compared with other words. Google presume the word with KDI 6% to be most relevant to that website, although its not the only factor but its certainly 1 of the importants one. Thats all i know of, I too have few queries regarding this, but its still unanswered. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=251650
ok thanks. I had a look at your post and i guess we're in the same position as when i upload new photos this will add more keywords to the site too.
Nice design. Try to make the menu items and titles more contrasting, just making them a little bigger would be enough.
Watermark your images all though the bigger image is at low resolution it won’t stop people from just downloading it for free plus you are going to sell these over and over drop the prices $1-$5/ image or something like that 25 too much for my blood. I would also add some free ones with your site on the bottom right corner or something so people can grab them get some free traffic. Also add some free images at http://www.sxc.hu/ along with your site in the profile that you will have there I find myself going to the photographer’s site for more images after I find a good one from that person all that is free of cost so make use of it
Thanks Peehed (great name) Also thanks tigrrra, I may have another look at the prices as I have a new supplier for the posters, although the canvas prints may have to remain the same. I already have membership to that site you mentioned, although haven't uploaded any yet.
You have two way to get sales: 1. To go after direct targeted traffic from other sites or ppc(for example Google adwords) 2. To optimize your site for some keywords you target and get traffic from Search engines. I would recommend you mix of two methods above. For number 2, you need to investigate keywords people search for related to your site. You can use overture keywords tool. Try "buy prints" and see some subterms which are not so competitive and hard to get(example "buy cheap prints online"). Optimize for lower terms first and when you get them go after stronger ones. You will need to change your title tag to include only your targeted keywords, but still to make sense for your visitors. It is very diluted at the moment. You can submit to directories with targeted terms in link title every day. Another thing is to place your blog at subdomain rather than on blogspot. Than write as much good stuff as you can. Google loves unique content and you will get good traffic from that. Also exchange links on your blog blogroll with related sites only and make them point to your main url instead of blog. Don't be opsesed with pr and concentrate to targeted traffic that will convert into sales. Hope this helps
Thanks for the ideas. I have wordpress in a subfolder but haven't had time to get it up and running yet. Not so competitive keywords seems quite sensible I guess, I'll look into that one too. I thought my title tags were pretty good actually but once I've found some less competitive keywords then I'll have another look. Thanks!
You have to wait to rank in search engines for a couple of keywords. Traffic is the key... or you should make a PPC campaign, but your saying your out of cash.
I strongly suggest to watermark your images, otherwise people will steal them and sell them, to your disadvantage.
Everything looks like it's in it's right place. Spacing is right, product looks good, lots of content, the only thing that's missing is traffic.
