I have recently took over this site and I have yet to see any progress in terms of decent traffic or clicks. I usually get 500 impressions a day but I have not had any clicks for the past few days. My best day for clicks is approx 4. Only 4 clicks. pr1. I am focusing on backlinks, articles, squidoo...you name it but I do not see any results. I am not giving up but I wanted to get some pointers. amazingjewellery.com is the website I am referring to. Is there a specific combination of marketing that works? Thanks!
I'm not certain about jewelry sites, but it seems a little boring. If you are getting impressions, why don't you get some sort of report to give away, such as how to maintain that new jewelry sparkle? You could even use it to build a mailing list. The only other thing I would suggest is having a blog with several RSS feeds coming in from other jewelry blogs. Put it on the same domain, in the folder "blog." Look into auto-blogging. You may need to be patient. Jewelry is a luxury item, and one of the first things to take a hit when a recession strikes. It's also one of the last to recover.
After visiting the site it all seems to be ads and no content. I would suggest if you are attracting lots of traffic but getting no clicks you are either targeting the wrong traffic or you page is not appealing to visitors. As a visitor I would say there are far too many options/things to click on. Try creating unique content for each page and then adding a few ads with the option to click to view more ads. There is no point in getting lots of traffic if it is not converting. Hope this helps.
You're not getting much activity because your entire website is spamsense and ebay ads. There's nothing there a user hasn't seen 100+ times on other websites. There's no unique content or anything of use, it's just pages and pages of "buy this!" type ads. Try adding some actual content and give people reasons to interact with the website rather than trying to throw products at them right away.
Ahh. I see. Offer content as well. I have a lot of articles but they are not listed on the site. I guess I will have to reorganize the site to become more informative. Thank you for your comments! At least I have some sort of direction now.
Also something to point out - 4 clicks out of 500 people isn't bad. That's a 0.8% CTR, most websites will see a 1% CTR so you're doing alright there. It's just that you have a low volume of traffic so it seems low to you.
I will have to agree with what newsniche said. Spend some time to write unique content that your visitors will find interesting to read. You can write about celebrity who wear the same jewelry, or how to choose the right gift for their spouse to make them stay longer and do something on your website.
You might wanna optimize ads placement. Try each placement for like two or more weeks and use the best result. By the way, one important thing to have is patience.
Yeah, I guess my ctr isn't too bad. ) Except for the past couple days I have not made anything at all. Which lead me to post here because something was wrong. Well, I am definitely going to make some major changes with the site. Ad placement, more content, less spammy. I am going to revamp the site to mirror this one. tennisdays.com It has a lot of content. I thought with adsense, that you cannot use adwords to point to the same site? I thought it was against Google's TOS. Thanks guys for the valuable input!! I am sure I will be on the road to having a decent site in no time.
