I recieved an e-mail this morning telling me I had recieved infractions for bumping my thread and adding an affiliate link to it. I understand I was in error for the improper bumps, but am yet to understand what affiliate links are contained in my thread. The thread in question is one for a domain sale: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=871521 It has a tinyurl redirection to the domain that I am selling. This is to protect prospective buyers interested in the domain from having the sale thread appear in search engines. How this could be mistaken for an affiliate link is beyond me. The domain - since its purchase, has been parked with Godaddy. It was never redirected to any sort of affiliate offer. If possible, could this infraction be considered for reversal?
Masked links of any sort are not allowed in posts, for the very reason that they might be used to conceal an affiliate link or some other web nasty. Technically they aren't allowed in signatures either (shhh... don't tell anyone)
As countryBoy says, masked links, affiliate links, and links with a referral ID are not allowed. We lump these together under an affiliate link infraction.
