What Adsense colours are most effective?

I guess colours which are similar to your forum are the option.

But looking at the ads in the top right on this site, they seem really colourful.

Which colour combinations do you find that work best?

The colors rotate here... the click through rate definitely went up when the rotation started.

Mine is not working at all with rotate color ads. So I just use a my website color schemes for the ads.

mine's not at all what you'd expect.

it's a white based layout but the "raspberry swirl" default by far performs the best.

I read that a yellow background and a red border and text are the most clicked on color combination. I would stay away from it. I tried it for about 2 weeks on one of my pages and it fell a lot.

I also tried yellow and red colors and experienced poor results.

Matching the color scheme of the web site has done the best for me -- so far.

Yea, I tried the same. Yellow and red colors.
It was doing okay, but it didn't look nice.
Now, I just match it to the color of the site and it's doing fine.

Match to site colours it is then. Although perhaps the wacky colours do draw attention?

Don't draw too much attention till visitors know thats an ads. People hate to clicks on the advertisement because by doing that, they make someone else richer.

but if they click on an ad unknowingly then they aren't likely to come back. Surely people don't like to be tricked either?

I did the same thing in one of my forums and have also noticed improvment in the CTR since then.

On my "regular" pages, I have the best success with borderless ads, although I have seen performance on this ad type slip in the last 2 months. Nothing major, but noticable none the less.

So far I didn't face that problem yet because number of clicks is increasing day by day. When the number of clicks start to decrease, I might change the ads format again.

We just recently started with adsense. No border, same background as site seems to work pretty good for us as well.

    check out https://www.google.com/adsense/tips

Google's tips suggest making the adds fit in with your page, making the background the same color as your page, making the links the same color as your links, placing it all above the fold.... much the same as you do with your navigation bar then....
