I own campusbreak.com and someone has purchased the domain campusbreak.net and the layout and the site is almost identical to my site. I do not own the .net version. How do I go about getting the site shutdown?
Geez, that looks exactly identical to yours. It looks like the site is hosted with http://www.softlayer.com/ I would contact them to have it taken down. Good Luck! Joe
Wow, He is even using your copyright notice. Take screen shots - then use the shotgun approach - contact and complain to everyone - his web host, his registrar, and his advertisers with a DCMA notice. Tell the registrar that the domain is in their name and they are liable - that should at least make them disable the Private WHOIS. Good luck.
Wow, that's identical. Are you using a CMS like Joomla or Drupal to run your site ?? If I were you, I'd contact abuse @ softlayer.com immediately. You're whois info predates them by over three years.
I contacted softlayer a few days ago, still waiting on a reply. The cms is custom made by myself. I custom make all my sites (I'm not sure why really).
You might want to try and contact 1and1.com because it seems they're the reseller for softlayer and they are the ones who are actually hosting the forged domain.. if you look at the whois info you can see this... domain: campusbreak.net created: 03-May-2008 last-changed: 12-Jun-2008 registration-expiration: 03-May-2009 nserver: ns1.softlayer.com 66.228.118.8 nserver: ns2.softlayer.com 66.228.119.9 status: CLIENT-TRANSFER-PROHIBITED registrant-firstname: Oneandone registrant-lastname: Private Registration registrant-organization: 1&1 Internet, Inc. - http://1and1.com/contact registrant-street1: 701 Lee Road, Suite 300 registrant-street2: ATTN: campusbreak.net registrant-pcode: 19087 registrant-state: PA registrant-city: Chesterbrook registrant-ccode: US registrant-phone: +1.8772064254 registrant-email: proxy1377074@1and1-private-registration.com Code (markup): I would give them 1and1 a call on the phone and send them an email with these two links that show Your site : http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.campusbreak.com Other Site : http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.campusbreak.net Notice, there isn't even a archive.org record for the imposter site.
I would feel good if I were you. This means that what you are doing is really good that the replicators are after you. You know that you can actually have them forfeit their domain name to you. PM for more info.
Yeah I know I can have them hand the domain over but I'm not worried about it too much. I just don't like having a site that looks like someone else's site even if mine was there first. I'm already creating a new layout for the site so it wont look the same as his. People just like to go the easy route. They don't want to pay for their own layout or ideas so they steal other peoples. Those types of people will be around forever.
Usually if you file a complaint at the host company softlayer then they will be required to take down the content. I wouldn't bother talking to 1and1 as they will simply refer you back to the reseller. You can also call them.
I would definitely NOT change the lay-out of your site because someone has stolen it from you. What's to prevent them from stealing the next, and the next and so on. You developed a nice looking site so defend it!
I know a couple russian guys that will take a name, an address and a few hundred dollars to..... oh - oops wrong forum for that... That's horrible - and I'm a man of principle, I would def. not back down, not build a new site, and make them never forget who they tried to punk off... NC.
WOW, that' s an exact replica of your site! I would be SUPER upset if this happened to me. I'd be on the phone till I got a hold of someone for sure!
I've contacted both 1&1 and softlayer about a week ago and still no replies. I called 1&1 but I'm not sure anyone actually speaks English there. I changed the layout on CampusBreak already and I will keep trying to contact the hosts. I guess that's all I really can do.
As you said that you had made your custom CMS, and he has copied that too(I mean the scripts and logic too, if he has), then their is something very fishy here. Possibly he could have stolen your the files from your server. Apart from you, the othe few people who can access files on your serrer are your server admin(the webhost). So really checkout whether he has just reverse engineered it by using login through frontend, or has he actually copied everybit of code! This *may* be something serious.
They would have to have SSH or telnet access to bigrollerdave's server (it appears he's on a dedicated box) to copy the actual PHP code. Looks more like a reverse engineering job. I've seen this happen before, as NCMedia stated above... In fact, I posted a thread here on DP a while back looking for freelance programming works and 9/10 responses were from people wanting an exact copy of an existing site. As a last option, you can try a DMCA on the site..
