Two months ago I signed up for a work from home job opportunity with I company I won't name yet. I had to pay a $55 sign up fee and they promised I would be paid on a monthly basis. I needed this job for the sake of my 9 month old daughter. So far I have not received any payment at all. I have tried calling them and emailing them but they are not willing to correspond with me at all. I now feel I have been taken for a ride. What action can I legally take against this company in order to get my money back?
You can go small claims, if they are in the same country as you. If they are from different countries it would be difficult. Also how did you pay them? If you are using Paypal you can file a dispute, if others, do check with your payment processor.
Sorry to say but if you read the fine print, I am sure there is a disclaimer that they do not guarantee jobs. These are mostly scams but they normally write the contract correctly so taht they protect themself. You should never have to pay a fee for a real job. I think you bought yourself a $55 life lesson. If you wish to PM me the site, I would be happy to read over it for you.
Absolutely, those email jobs and those financial jobs that ask you to pay them to work are ridiculous. You worked to be paid and not the other way round. Such scams have been going around for ages. The scammers know their way around and sad to say it will be hard to nail them, though, do try to do a chargeback if you can.
I did actually pay via Paypal. I will file a dispute I think, I never thought of that. Its worth a go. Thanks
You will have to check their terms of service to find out if they have a money-back guarantee before you go to court. If you paid a fee, sometimes it's looked at as if you have bought a business and it's a succeed or fail type of thing. If there is a guaranteed payout schedule, then they are obligated to pay you. One thing you can do is find out who the owner of the company is by searching the owner of the website where you signed up. Contact them directly instead of trying to contact the website.
They billed me for Online Typing Job. They advised that I would be guaranteed to be paid between the 7th and 15th of the month. I have tried contacting the company director on the mobile telephone number provided but it just keeps ringing, nobody ever answers. I have given them the benefit of the doubt for one month now and I am not getting anywhere. I have filed a dispute to paypal and I am now awaiting their reply. Thank you for your help everyone.
I was burnt by something similar when I was young and gullible. Hopefully the PayPal dispute works out, because other than going through a payment processor like PayPal or ClickBank, there's not much you can do about these places. (Well, there's stuff you can do, but it will cost you much more than the $55 in time and effort.) Like allout says, "I think you bought yourself a $55 life lesson" which isn't a bad deal in the long run.
nice you filed a dispute if you know any other who scammed from same scheme (person ) just ask them to file a dispute atleast it helps to others
I think it is pretty safe to say that any company that wants the jobseeker to pay money is a scam and should be avoided.
Well papal dispute might not do much help as i was faced with a similar situation. But it is definitely worth a try rather than giving up.
taylorm already stated its been 2 months back when he/she started so paypal will not entertain 2 months old transaction as dispute. if the company is from your home country then you have the option to raise a police complaint on charges of cheating and mis-appropriation of facts else you cant do much. in that case its better to forget that money and get a lesson for your better future. there is no easy money on net as claimed by most site owners who are always ready to scam newbies and money hungry people.
If paypal won't entertain your request, then go straight to your credit card company and stop paypal taking the funds there. Of course this means Paypal will get all prissy and close your account. But its better than loosing $55.
