Ok I apologize first if this post annoys you.

I somewhat get the part of optimizing your websites, ads, content, etc.
But what about getting a little bit of traffic to start with?

Let's say you just built a site/page about the World Cup, how do you get true visitors to your site? For me, I can't even get my site indexed in Google or any search engines for that matter. My earnings so far after using AdSense for ½yr is only $0.71.

If you could only spare me 1 tip? How can I get some traffic to start with? :(

Get links from other sites. Use your sig on forums to display a clickable URL. You will need to wait a weak here to be able to enable your sig.

The more links you get back to you the better.

Nice one MatthewN. I was just asking myself the same question and have come to the same conclusion after reading this forum for months.

Can anyone recommend the best link building software out there today.

I have seen quite a few posts about good software and it's about time I invested in some methinks.

    Thanks.

why wouldn't it be legal? it isn't the same as MLM or pyramid scheme if that's what you're asking. it's started by DP member mad4.

if it is illegal or not i do not know, there should be a member of Adsense team seeing this forum.

But in life pyramid schemes are SCAM and illegal.

A significant part of traffic building is time. Certainly link building is important but it takes time to get them, it takes time for the search engines to find the new links, it takes time for updates, etc. For example, I have a little placeholder site up for a tiny niche term. It's been up for 18 months and has only recently worked its way high enough in the SERPs to start having some traffic and generate a little income.

I am sure I could have accelerated the process if I had done all the link building, adding content etc. but time is still a significant factor.

I think many put up a site and then do minimal work on it while it ages.

As has been mentioned, developing backlinks is a great way to drive traffic. Not only am I a huge advocate of article submissions (I do offer this as a service to webmasters), but you can read reviews online by other webmasters who have had great success in driving traffic through articles. It's pretty cheap, efficient, and depending on the niche you are writing about, it can generate a substantial amount of traffic.

Submit articles to such as Ezinearticles, submit to PRWeb, start a couple of blogs with backlinks, buy a few ads on Overture or Kanoodle, join some related forums, ask related sites for link exchange, ask friends with sites or blogs to link to you, tune up your site with good SEO techniques, add your site to StumbleUpon.com, etc.

Unfortunately, the "Field of Dreams" effect (build it and they will come) doesn't work too often with web sites. Natural aging doesn't work as well with web sites as with good whiskey.

Get good PR links to get pages indexed quickly. A PR 5 or better should do. After that small trickles of traffic may start coming in. But there are many other factors here.

Since you are interested in the World Cup, I would make a point of visiting sports related forums. The couple I have found are not terribly active and are very pro-active when it comes to perceived spamming, but you can get signatures for your posts after participating for a period of time.

Like here, post an introduction after you join. Make relevant comments. And, on those sites, do not try to promote your site until and unless you can pout a URL and simple description in your signature. Otherwise, you be immediately banned and your posts deleted.

I have created a links page at my sports site. PM me if you want to exchange links.

Also, you can do a geo targetted AdWords campaign if you have a marketing budget.
