Hi, I was just thinking about Web Sites Directory similat to coop ad network. Each user would download a directory-script which would display directory of sites from the network. All users link to all other users in the network. The directory would be divided into categories. What do You think ?
You mean something like linkdash.com but completely free? I have always wondered if this approach would work.
But with directory my link will stay in the directory. With coop ad network links are displayed random. What about the "age of links" factor ?? With directory there is no problem with aging links, with random links there is one. Coop ad is great, i have 2x times more links than #1, but i'm lower in the serps ;(. This can be due to aging of links. There were suggestions on this forum to make coop ad network divided into categorie/themes of sites. Directory would fit great in this.
Well it would basically be DMOZ on a smaller scale. You have xxx sites, and a bunch of sites that use the data (hundreds of directories are based on ODP data). No need for a coop network for it.
hmmm..... But DMOZ does not give ALL members the ability to put copy of the directory on their sites. I think it would work better than random links. I'm talkin about using coop ad as BackLinks machine for SE, not AD network.
Anyone can put up a DMOZ directory - the whole lot or just a piece of it. I wonder if there is a difference to search engines for the "age" of a link or is the pure number what counts.
Anyone can use ODP data... http://rdf.dmoz.org/ It really sounds like what you want is the ODP system just on a smaller scale. The whole thing about the ad network is you get what you give. It would be impossible to do that on a directory system because everyone would be equal.
The linkdash idea seems good at first glance .. but from the lesson I learnt earlier this week (Link Farming 101) the end result of this would be a link farm which is not good at all. DP Rocks
I had a play round with the data you can download from dmoz. Downloaded it, got it spidered, and now get about 300 random visitors a day to it, lol.
A DMOZ-alternative where each copy was able to contribute additions back into the directory is, to my mind, an interesting and potentially useful project.
