I see alot of sites they load stuff from Content Delivery Networks. (CDN) You might see in the url 44.cnd.example.com , The letters cnd is obvious for content delivery network, but I noticed some useing "ak". Anyone know what the abbreviation .ak. means in the url? One site that uses it is facebook.com "static.ak.fbcdn.net
I think it is "standardized" , here are some more using .ak. for their static content urls. http://ak.static.dailymotion.com/ http://ak.buy.com/ ttp://static-ak.zoomorama.com Is it possible it has something to do with the http://www.akamai.com/ content delivery network? (notice the AK in the url). Maby its some of kind a of "fad" now to put ak in your static content urls? or this urls are using akamia? interesting enough.. I'm curious why. lol Edit: haha! It is. Look at this. root@server [~]# nslookup static.ak.fbcdn.net Server: 127.0.0.1 Address: 127.0.0.1#53 Non-authoritative answer: static.ak.fbcdn.net canonical name = static.ak.facebook.com.edgesuite.net. static.ak.facebook.com.edgesuite.net canonical name = a749.g.akamai.net.
