What’s wrong with my site?

I have been working on a site for 7 months after it came out of a sandbox. Site positions were between 100 and 300 according to Google.

Over a few months, the site has been slowly promoted to positions between 14 and 21, stayed for a few weeks, then suddenly started to swing from its position to 6-8 position for 1-2 hours and back to its previous position and in 1-2 hours back again and so on. This situation has continued for the last 3 weeks.

Does anybody know what is causing it? What to expect next from Google?

All I can really recommend that you do is keep building backlinks to pages throughout your site (not just to the main page) from high page rank sites and forums. this is the fastest way to strengthen your position in the serps. Google has been doing a bit of a dance lately and I think a lot of people have experienced what you're talking about with massive shifts in position. It should settle down before long and then you can come up with your next strategy.

It's a common thing. Ranking in google fluctuates on a regular basis. What you need to do is continue with your linkbuilding activities (forum posting, article submission, link exchange, etc.), that's the only way to maintain the good ranking of your site.
