Hi everyone, I need some advice on how best to promote a none profit making community website. I’ve been given the task of promoting a new site that’s gone live and as the sites content will be mostly user generated, we need to get some members posting to attract others to join in.

The site is http://www.cyro.co.uk/index.php Cyro all to do with recycling and reducing good items going to landfill. The Notice Board for people to offer, swap or place wanted posts is aimed at the UK for now but if it takes off we could widen the locations to cover other countries.

Go Green is for articles and news stories covering green issues and Green Pages is a green business directory, all posts and submissions are FREE, donations are very welcome as it’s not for profit and we don’t want to fill the site with adverts.

Any ideas would be very welcome as we need some advice on how to promote Cyro.

    Thanks Mike :)

GO to the affiliate pages of the other sites in your niche -- if there are any -- and look for the text link ads they have for their affiliates. Then do an exact match search for those ads in google. THis will show you the affiliates for your competitors products. COntact them and see if they will promote for you as well... If they are building a list, it will be another product they can market to their list... If not, you can see if they will link to your site on their page as well... Try to offer them a higher % than the competition... Also, make sure your site stacks up to the one they are currently promoting.

I can't see the point of going to affilates pages Laurens as Cyro is a none for profit community website and does not have funds to offer for links. We need free ways of promoting the site, but thanks anyway for your input.

Maybe you could try Craigslist? Also, some other local businesses with websites may be willing to swap links with you or send it out and email to their client list.

    Your website is commendable! :)

Most SEO strategies will work I think eventhough your site is non-profit. I suggest building a good keyword list and making sure those are in your homepage title and meta description. Write articles containing your keywords and a link to your website, then submit them to articles directories for backlinks. You might also want to check out blogs that are pro-environment or have the same concept as your blog and comment on them. Don't forget to add the link to your site on your comment!

I hope that helps. Have a good day!

Affilorama, thank you for yours words of encouragement and for your advice. I will get a few different unique articles done and submit those to article sites. I'll look for some bloging sites that are pro-environmental where I can add a link.

I'm looking at sending out a press release to all the UK local authorities, Cyro could be a useful tool in helping them towards hitting their EU targets for landfill reduction.

    Hi Mike!

You're welcome! Glad to help. :)

Sending out that press release and letting the local government know about the site will help. Try getting them to link Cyro in their own .gov or .org sites. That helps a lot in increasing page rank.

    Have a good day!
