Thanks, my friend. I've sat on the fence a long time about gay issues because it didn't affect me. It's time to move forward. There are so many *real* issues facing our country. Being gay, or not, shouldn't be one of them. I'm tired of it being some "issue" in the Republican party. It's time to move on to *real* issues.

Depriving gays of rights due them, such as marriage and employment benefits, through poltiical action is not going to make someone not gay. It's not going to change the number of gay people. It's not going to change anything. It's only prolonging the enevitable. If you're gay, your gay. I'm just fed up with it being an issue. I hope this doesn't mean I'm somehow a closet democrat or something, but there...I've said it. Gays are not enemies of our country. It's time they stop being treated as such.

I would vote for the biggest, most gasieous, thickest necked president. Male/female/gay/neuter doesn't matter. make em big make em fat make em spend a lot of time on the porcelain throne.:D

Now that you have come in term with gay rights and don't consider them an enemy which is very positive development; how about nominating Mia and bigdoug as the president and vice president nominee on the gay Republicans ticket? :D

It would be far more representative for me to nominate you as part of the axis of evil and ensure you are afforded all the benefits that come with being such a member. America doesn't need Canadian al qaida spokesmen to provide us direction.

I nominate this as the lowpoint of Gworld's low posts. Beyond ridiculous, useless, puerile. Gtech posts a deeply thoughtful, honorable post, and this is your response, a 1st grade, schoolyard sandbox taunt? Grow up, buddy.

I find it difficult to understand why a female could not be president. After all, there have been several sucessful female world leaders, England's former priminster comes to mind. I think the reason there has not been one yet is too fold.

    1. Tradition
    2. No female has run for president yet

We are a very young country, and in all honesty have come a LONG way on a number of key issues that have taken other countries several centuries, even thousands of years to overcome.

I'm certain in my life time there will not only be a women president, there will be a black president as well. Do remember, its not been that long that blacks and women were even aloud to vote, much less run for office.

Look how far we've come in such a short time. For our age, we are a very progressive country, and I am proud to be a part of that.

As do I. I'm not opposed in the least bit, however, I will not vote for a woman president just because she is a woman. The fact that she is a woman should have no bearing. What her positions are, her experience and all the other qualifications that I would choose a male over, are what count.

I really hope that Gtech has changed his mind about gay rights but I hardly doubt that since he is not the kind that can come up with an original idea. I mostly suspect that he visited some Republican site that mentioned gays are OK because Republican party is in desperate need of support, so they don't want to lose gay republicans or because army needs soldiers and they are trying to recruit gay men. ;)

It is also very interesting that you can stand quite while they make up history and post hateful posts but you show such strong condemnation of a simple joke. It seems you have forgotten that part of being an intellectual is to stand up for your ideas and beliefs, otherwise there will be no difference between a man and a donkey carrying a lot of books on it's back.

On the contrary, I do disagree with Gtech on many things when it comes to politics and the direction we are currently taking as a country. But I have respect for him as an honorable person, who cares and thinks on things as much as I do, and he has opened my eyes to things I would not have otherwise thought. As to "making up history," I'm sorry, Gworld, but I have found your versions about as far off field, generally, as one can conjure up. You will note that when I have agreed with you on the facts, I have said so; just as I have clearly shown where and when I have disagreed with your views.

    Please see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=181319

for example. Out of an engaging discussion comes the first of many non-productive gems:

I find a difference between mouthing platitudes and standing up for one's beliefs. Regarding your post on this thread, I stand by them now.

I agree with Big D. If Richard Simmons had a big fat thick neck he'd get my vote regardless of issues. If he wins....I hope he attends all meetings with congress, officials, foreign dignataries, etc. in his gym outfit!

uh oh.....just thought of something....who'd be his first lady?

How about a choice of neither!!! Since when did being gay become classified as a race. What are gay rights? I'm not gay so those rights won't pertain to heterosexual males, which makes that a discriminatory term. I don't see any where in the Bill of Rights a "gay" clause or amendment...Just cut the PC crap.

I think most here are in agreement, SFOD. I think, if I'm hearing it right, that most here don't care what the sexual persuasion or gender is - just want the best person for the job.

"Gay rights", to me, are like "Civil rights". They are not special rights, nor are they rights that in any way shape or form offer up different or new rights for a particular group. The "rights" in question or nothing more than "equal rights", affordered to any other group.

Essentially, Gay rights are the "Same Rights", we all hope to enjoy. Nothing more, nothing less.
