We're a 4 month old UK children's clothing website trying to claw our way out of the sandbox. At the moment we're not even listed in the top 1000 results at Google.co.uk for our main key words 'baby clothes'. Yesterday I was delighted to see that we've finally been listed on DMOZ, but only the regional http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Clothing/Childrenswear/ If you do a search for us (CosyPosy) on the DMOZ home page we still don't appear Can anyone tell me if this will affect our chance to rise in search engine rankings and why we're not coming up in the DMOZ main directory?
Congrats on getting listed in dmoz. You should already know that this listing is not the magical bullet that will increase your rankings. It won't contribute as much to your rankings as another link with your preferred anchor text, but it definitely won't hurt with the trust factor. The search database is separate from the listings, so you won't show up in the search results until it it's updated. But not to worry - very few use dmoz search so you won't be missing out on any traffic. Keep promoting your site, work at getting links from relevant sites with varied anchor text utilizing your primary keywords, submit to some of the other directories that have a category for your site. The rankings will come, but it may take a while.
A website listed in dmoz will usually have to wait 1-7 days to appear for a search in dmoz. Your website seem to show now http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=CosyPosy
