Hi, Recently i earned few bucks through my agency online using my friends paypal account! Now he sended me money through western union and he also provided mtcn code but when i go to western union branch they says MTCN code is wrong so i again contacted my friend he than asked them that why MTCN code is not working and after 20 min of investigation they said my payment is in their holding department as my country is under sanctions any transactions going through is closely watched as to verify that receiver is not some Taliban or al qaida! But the reality is that my amount is small 100$ only so why they will hold my payment? and also my country (Pakistan) is not under any sanctions! I am just clueless now that what should i do?
well usually all you have to do is provide proof of identification..i used to send to all kinds of countries and people it happened with alot of my friends..they would hold it until the sender calls the security department..they will ask the sender a few questions about the receiver..and check if that person is on any terrorist lists...it is standard procedure...it sucks but you will get your money...they held 50 dollars from my friend till i called.
can you give me more info about this security department? any way to contact them? my friend (sender) lives in NZ.
The MTCN should still be trackable regardless to the status of the payment. Goto westernunion.com and search for the status of your MTCN, if it's not recognized then maybe the sender didn't really send?
thats the real problem i cant check status it says mtcn code is wrong! I trust my friend and i know he sent me the money but their is some issue with this security department i will ask him to contact them and will see what happens!
c4gamerz , i am also from pakistan getting very huge ammount upto 2k by western union no issues at my side. sender is the prb not western union, email western union or call them and told them to track MTCN and if they holded it , ask them transaction is on your name or not simple ? hope it helps.
well if they said wrong mtcn...then either the sender made an honest mistake or you just got caught up in a scam
I just received scanned copies of receipts from my friend and it clearly shows that he has sent my money 5 days ago and mtcn number is also same so it must be wu now causing all this trouble!

At last my payment is available to collect! My friend called them and they asked for receivers scanned copy of National ID card and other details like place of birth, date of birth etc and than they released it!
I'm from Pakistan and I've received tons of Payments through Western Union. And in BIG amount, like $5000 etc, once a month. But I never had any problem receiving the money...
Very strange issue here regarding Western Union. Even though I am not from Pakistan, I am pretty sure that the issue is not about the country.
