hi i have to get a payment from USA to India from western union. has anyone ever tried western union before? I have certain queries: 1. What are the charges that they charge? 2. I had heard somewhere that WU is only for personal transfers and therefore, if I am selling a website to a buyer and then getting payment here, then that would be called a business payment and might create problems here. Is there any such problem ? 3. What kind of proofs do they require for getting the payment? Thanks
1. Charges Are Different for Different Places... so i cant tell exactly say what amount. In Pakistan it was 800rs on an amount of 50,000+. 2. WU can be used for any means i.e. transferring. Even if u sold a website, got payment from family, it is all allowed. The payment for selling a website is personal. 3. You will need proof of your identity, i.e. National Identity Card / Driver License/ Passport. I usually verify with my driver license
I don't understand why WU is a big issue in India where as long as you have valid identifications, there should be no problem..
1. What are the charges that they charge? - Their charges are different for different place. You can check the estimate on their website. 2. I had heard somewhere that WU is only for personal transfers and therefore, if I am selling a website to a buyer and then getting payment here, then that would be called a business payment and might create problems here. Is there any such problem ? - Yes this is true. You can't receive the business payment but you can hide this deal from them easily. So don't worry about it - just go ahead. 3. What kind of proofs do they require for getting the payment? - You just need to give them MCTN No(Transaction No) and the photoID proof(Driving Licence) of the receiver. That's It !!
There is no big issue in withdrawing money from WU and charges are very low,all you need is valid identification thats all.
Here is what you have to keep in mind with western union. 1. With western union you will only be able to receive from foreign country but you cannot send outside India. 2. The sender have to pay approx 3% of amount. 3. You need to get the secret MTCN number and you will need to mention that with WU agent along with identity proof. 4. Western union payments can only be sent from person to person and cannot be used for business purpose. 5. There is a restriction that you can receive only 12 times in a calendar year. I think there is a cap of USD 2,500 per person per month. 6. If the payment is above INR 50'000 they will give you a check else they will give you cash. For more information, refer to this page
