    You should first go through deep analysis of keyword competition.After selecting the best keyword on the basis of whose KEI value,then start making back links using that keyword in anchor text.

    ^ yeah right... Analyze your keywords first. You can use Google Adwords or Google insights. Then, better to use long tail keyword for you to rank. Since, short keyword are your competitor.;)

    Its not that simple to get ranked at first page of google.
    You need to do more than submit link to directory only.
    More job needed such as on page SEO,off page SEO and many more.
