Went from being #3 on page 1 to not listed anywhere?

I've been ranking either the number 3 or number 4 on page 1 of Google for about a month now. When I went to check today, I couldn't find my site in the first 10 pages. It is just totally gone.

So I logged in to my Webmaster tools account and there is nothing there that indicates any problems. The only strange thing is that the number of pages crawled had a huge jump from the normal 7 pages to 47 within the last day or two.

I would have thought that there would be some indication of a problem in Webmaster tools, but nothing is reported.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Sit tight for a day or two, then look into it.

OK, I'll wait a couple days to see if anything changes.

Thanks for the help, and I'll update this thread if I find out what happened.

You have to continue to build links for your site. Maybe it's just fluctuation.

could be just google dance. it is very typical for new sites to rank well at the beginning and then disappear. if you still find your site being indexed and find inner pages of your site indexed as well, then nothing to worry. just keep building links and your site will come back up

your initial rank was due to freshness factor. it then disappeared because google need more data to rank your site properly. just keep pushing and you will be fine

I believe my site did the same thing when I started.
Although it wasn't anywhere near page 1. More like page 10.

Do a site:yourdomainname.com search, if your pages show then it's just part of the Google dance as your site settles. If nothing appears on that search, you've been penalized by Google and you need to contact them to find out why and how to resolve it.

You must have been doing unethical SEO techniques or it might be fluctuation.

Thats not a fluctuation they are only a few results say position 5 to 10 etc.
Have you changed anything on your site/page? Even just adding more text to it?

    Don´t worry too much.
Just keep on with the SEO, adding new content, building backlinks etc.
When it does reappear you´ll have a stronger, better placement.

I have to agree with sultanofseo.

Also, looking at your second site in your sig, for starters, you're not even using your description or keyword tags! (I didn't look any further than that.)

What keyword(s) are you wanting to optimize for? Place these keywords in your keywords tag and add them somewhere in your description as well as your title tag. The major search engines do not give importance to the keywords tag any longer, but some search engines still do. Do not stuff it with keywords though. Even though the major search engines do not give any importance to this tag, they still see it and may penalize your site anyways for trying. Not worth the risk.

Make sure that the same keywords are placed somewhere in the body of the page that you're trying to rank. Also, use header tags and place these keywords in those tags. I still can't believe the amount of sites I see that aren't using these tags!

Make sure you have good linking structure. Avoid broken links.

After all that easy stuff is over with, then it's time to "get your hands dirty" with off-page optimization. Get quality, relevant incoming links from authority sites using your keywords as anchor text. Vary it up though. You want it to look natural. Getting only a handful of high quality links from authority sites is better than getting a thousand links from crap sites, and takes A LOT less time. DO NOT ATTEMPT LINK SPAMMING! DO NOT USE AUTOMATED SOFTWARE THAT WILL GET YOU 1000 LINKS INSIDE OF A DAY! Of course you could ignore that warning if you want to get banned by the big G.

I do all backlinking manually for my sites. =)

Avoid the use of black hat tactics, even if they are tempting. Being patient is the most important thing here. The search engines will find your backlinks and count them over time. It doesn't happen over night! Remember the expression, 'patience is a virtue'. If you do everything right, it will pay off in the future.

That's all for now; gotta go make some coffee. Hope this helps. =)

Check www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=yoursite.com if you not listed there.
Also check in webmaster tools if google crawls your pages and when last time they visited you. As per what you say, the number of indexed pages grow, which means that google crawls your website.

Did you do any major changes on your pages? Sometimes it can result in loosing SERP position, but usually it recovers within weeks.
