Went from 2 Million Alexa to 900k in 3 days

My site used to be just over 2 million Alexa rank, and I have gotten it down to about 940,000 in just 3 days. This is an improvement of over 50%, but I am wondering how I can increase my Alexa even more than this! Any tips for increasing Alexa rank for sites?

Just install the alexa toolbar and surf around on your site, with a rank of one million you are low enough that you can skew the results considerably just by walking around with that toolbar on your own site.

That's what I've been doing, and it must have helped a ton. My goal is to get it down to around 300k to 200k within the coming days, and then from there I can start working on building a real Alexa rank.

You could probably get it up a bit more by having a couple of friends (not on the same ISP) also click around on your site with the toolbar but this is not going to be a good long term solution.

If you really want to build Alexa rank (I don't do that anymore) you need to figure out what demographic of users actually use the Alexa toolbar and do some traffic getting targeted at those users.

As the number of Alexa toolbar users is relatively small compared to the number of Internet users you will get greatly inflated numbers in case you can get some traffic with only toolbar users.

I have a site that has about 600 visitors a day and still no Alexa rank > million and you can get a better rank than that just by surfing around with toolbar yourself. The visitors to that site is probably non-alexa users by demographic.

Why waste the time building a "fake" Alexa rank? Just build the real one from the start. You're wasting time building a fake rank that you could use on quality content for your site. Seems pretty dumb.

If by "real" Alexa rank you mean targeted, paying visitors to his website I agree fully with you, the first priority should be to build a good website, targeted at a niche in a market where you can make money and get traffic to it.

If he just want Alexa rank for some reason (that was his question) than it might not help to build a great site with traffic (I have a site that does well but have no Alexa rank) he needs to specifically target the Alexa rank.

The Alexa rank is fake by definition as it's just the popularity of a site withing a small subset of the Internet population.

Of course putting the Alexa widget on the site will gather data to Alexa so they can get a real rank but in my case I don't want the Alexa widget so I get a completely skewed rank.

Even if you get around 10 UV's per day consistantly, your site will get around to 700k in alexa. Actually there are many-many sites and even a slight increase in traffic results in great change for rank!

I still am not getting the point. Does a lower alexa get you more traffic?

What I tried to say was that Alexa collects the traffic information with the Alexa toolbar. Too bad the users that has installed the Alexa toolbar are not interested in some types of sites (it's about demographics) so some sites will get a much higer/lower Alexa rank even with the exact same traffic amount.

I have a site that has had about 600 unique users and 1200 pageviews per day every day for over a years time and yet it has an Alexa rank of 1,579,961

I have another site that has had about 20 pageviews per day for a long time and still it has an Alexa rank of 1,833,716

These are all real users mostly from the search engines no traffic exchanges or pay for traffic visitors.

No, a low Alexa rank doesn't mean you get more traffic. It just shows others where your site ranks among all sites and has nothing to do with getting more traffic to your site.

The Alexa rank will not get you any more or less traffic, it's just for bragging or as an argument when selling ad space.

Ad space is the key part of that sentence, I need as much leverage I can when selling ad space and Google PR isn't enough.

Do you have a tool for manipulating the rank or did you just get popular?

    alexa rank is nothing man.

you could easily felt out million again if you cannot maintain it. (i mean if you build up fake rank)

but if your site really get constant UV (more than 500-1000), you can easily rank within 100,000.

don't waste time on it. pr is more important now.
