'We'll take land by force if talks fail'

Should diplomacy fail to return "Israeli-occupied land" to Lebanon, the Lebanese army (LAF) will take it by force, Lebanese President Gen. Michel Sueleiman said on Sunday.

Suleiman was speaking at a press conference after meeting Syrian President Bashar Assad on the sidelines of the Mediterranean conference in Paris. The Lebanese president stressed, however, that the military option was the last resort.

Assad said Lebanon had an important role to play in the Middle East peace process and that any progress in future Israel-Lebanon negotiations would be made in coordination with Syria.

Meanwhile, in what is being interpreted in Israel as a declaration of ownership, the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) has built a road and set up a military position in the Shaba Farms/ Mount Dov area for the first time since Israel's withdrawal from that part of Lebanon in 2000.

Tough talks aren't worth anything if it is not back up by the forces necessary to enforce them. The Lebanese army cant even control the land they are holding at the moment, the militias are more or less given a free hand in their own sector of the land.

Asking for Israeli-occupied land and threatening force just isn't credible in the part of Lebanon. It will be more of a joke than a threat to the Israelis.

I disagree, it is telling Israel, give our land back and if you don't, we will take it back ourselves. If they do decide to take it back by force, the Lebanese army will do it together with Hezbollah, as they are a trusted ally now with the army. So with Hezbollahs power, they can take back their land by force, of course it is credible, Hezbollah sent Israel home crying in the last fight ;)

Hezbollah will be good at guerilla warfare but if you are talking about conventional warfare to get back the land by force from Israel, I can just say that it will be what the Israeli commanders are hoping for. They can wipe out Hezbollah once and for all.

Even the regular Syrian or Iranian armies are still no match against the Israeli's military might.

I hope not, I hope we won't see any more wars in the Middle East, Lebanon as a nation had suffered tremendously, I hope to see more rebuilding and economic growth than warfare.

It's our historical land, not yours.

    About the topic -
This is bullshit. You think the weak Lebanese army can fight with IDF and win lands? Nice joke.

somebody who came from somewhere and says my grandfathers here were 2000-3000 years ago, does not have a right on the land.
somebody who does not believe in God and say God promised me this land, does not really have a right on the land.

and most importantly, somebody who is a terrorist and admit it, then use massacres and expelling to take over land, has no right on any land except maybe a small 4x6 piece of land in prison.

    1. There is Archeological proofs.
    2. WTF? who said that we don't believe in god?
    3. Should I give you a list of the massacres done by you, the Arabs? I believe you know those massacres. After all, it's hero acts in your distorted society.

    1. post them
    2. some do believe in God, some do not believe in God, but the claim that been used by Israel when they occupied Palestine was its a promised land, so it might not be convincing to the people who do not believe in Judaism as a true religion, and for sure, for those Jews who do not believe in God, yet they used it on behalf of all Jews who believe in God and who do not believe in God,

the ones who believe in God, in majority, also believe its possible to believe in God without obeying his commands.

30 somebody already spoke in that challenging accent few days ago, and wanted to post, and even posted a link to some lists, feel free to post too, it does not change anything to the fact that Israel was found on the massacres, illegal immigration, and the bad treatment to Arabs, as old UN investigations show.

It seems that Lebanon and Syria need to decide who's land it is, so that Israel has someone to negotiate with. Without one state aserting ownership, who will be responsible for keeping order on the border and making sure it is not used by terrorist groups to attack Israel from that area? I know many here don't care if Israel is attacked from that area, but that is the main hurdle to returning the land. Israel already left Lebanon as confirmed by the UN.

"20 square kilometers of mountains on the northeast border - was conquered by Israel from Syria during the Six Day War. Israel says the land belongs to Syria, while Hizbullah claims it belongs to Lebanon. Syria and Lebanon have not resolved the issue between them."

"For decades members of the international diplomatic community have repeatedly requested that Syria and Lebanon take steps to determine the exact boundary between them in the Shebaa Farms region and elsewhere, including officially registering the demarcated border with the United Nations."

Some groups want the ambiguity on whose land it is so that they can continue to have a reason to attack Israel.

    Hold on, hold on...
    I just found something interesting:
When Israel retreated from Lebanon in 2000, Israel tried to talk with the Lebanese government about the border.
The Lebanese government refused to talk with Israel, so Israel talked with the UN, and current border line is UN recognized.
SO WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE CRYING ABOUT?! THEY HAD THEIR CHANCE, THEY DIDN'T USE IT, THEIR PROBLEM!
