    Having a blog on your site will in turn create more pages for your website. The more pages your website has the better chance it will get found by google search engines.

    It's possible that his site is still indexed on google. The blog helps the ranking for long-tail keywords and the internal backlinks if we're talking just about SEO. But a blog is much more powerful than that!
